brown paper tag

The artwork was conceived out of an exploration of words and letter forms. The meaning of the phrase "Horoscopes can't save humble timbers" is an open one. An interpretation of each word can be made to decipher the purpose of it's position in the phrase as well as the entire meaning. When any viewer reads the text this process will be done almost instantaneously as word association has become second nature. The hope is that this unusual pairing of words might give the viewer pause to reflect.

This mixed media Piece includes India ink, spray paint, and acrylic.Using a limited number of stencils salvaged from a sign shop , thinking about words meaning and importance, I created the words that were possible using combinations that had the most impact. I placed the letters on the create paper (also salvaged from the sign shop) and applied different treatments to each one.
